I am a printmaker who creates etchings, monotypes and monoprints inspired by the natural world. Drawing has been a lifelong passion and the various techniques of printmaking many tools that can be especially suited to drawing. Printmaking is also an art of processes that requires planning and technical expertise but for me, it also may bring unexpected and spontaneous results.
Trees and woodland landscapes are the main focus of my work. I attempt to convey the distinctive beauty, energy and sense of balance found in nature. In today’s busy world, nature can remote to many. Fewer and fewer people have the opportunity to stand in the midst of a forest; to hear the rustle of leaves in the wind, to see sunlight filtered through leaves and branches; and to feel the stillness of an old forest.
In my work, I try to capture the essence of the woodland atmosphere, and to share what it is that I have loved about the natural world, my whole life.
